Led by Matt McGinley and Charlie Johnson the Raiders started early and never looked back. Steve Westerman overcame his first game jitters and had a solid outing in getting the win. Woody Blackburn getting his first action of the season made the best of it, rounding the bases to score the 13th and final run.

The JV Raiders came up short on both ends Saturday as the defense comitted 5 errors and the offense was held in check by a junk baller from Conestoga. No one could figure out just how far his curve ball would break but it looked like sometimes he would throw it at 3rd base for a called third strike. Ben White getting his first start of the season pitched well and Danny Gross did a good job in relief. The next four games are all Ches-monts and could make or break the Raiders Season. This one is out of the way, lets play Raider Baseball

The teams knocked heads for 6-1/2 innings with Henderson having the lead going into the bottom of the 7th. Charlie Johnson started the inning with a double off the top of the right center field net. The Raiders proceeded to put together 2 walks and three hits to steal the win 5-4. The team showed character and team togetherness in making the come back. Other game highlights saw Matt McGinley get his first homerun of the season and Mike Walker drive in the game winner in the bottom of the 7th. John Pugh threw four strong innings in allowing only 1 run. John has taken an early lead in becoming the team's top pitcher.

GAME SUMMARY:  The Raiders played long ball as Ben Slider and Charlie Johnson went yard back to back in the first inning. Not to be outdone, Justin Frame took a home run trot in the 4th. Nasty weather plagued the Raiders again as rain and cold dampened the entire game. Wet balls and slippery field conditions allowed a determined Shanahan team to rally and make the game closer than it really was. Coatesville pitchers fought the weather all day to keep a slippery ball in play. Defensively a nice backhand at 2nd base by Steve Haines and a great running catch by Drew Norton in left were bright spots on a muggy day. Next week serious Ches-Mont competition starts. Come out and support The Raiders.

And come alive they did, the entire line up contributed to 10 run Upr Merion and end the game after only 5 innings. The Raiders put together 16 hits to send Upr Merion home wondering if they had knocked over a hornets nest. Coach Gill tested the opponents outfield arms by sending multiple runners to the plate on base hits through the infield. GAME SUMMARY: After recovering from a cracked growth plate in his foot Mike Maxwell needed a comeback game to get himself back on track. His breakout game couldn't have come against a better team than the tough Henderson squad. Mike was 3 for 3, drove in a run, and scored the winning run in the top of the seventh. Getting a reputation for being the Henderson killer, Mike Walker who drove in the winning run in the bottom of the 7th in the first game, singled into right field to drive in Maxwell in the top of the 7th that proved to be the game winner. John Pugh, his team mates are starting to talk him up for the Cy Young award. "the man is a machine" to quote several of the players after John went the distance for his third complete game in a row and his fourth for the season. Johns current ERA is an outstanding 1.17 and has 24 K's against 3 walks. The

GAME SUMMARY: Cheese Steaks For All. Dan Gross doubled over the left fielders head in the 5th to drive in runs 15 & 16 and sent Coach Gill digging for his wallet. Coach has to buy the team cheesesteaks anytime they 10 run a Chesmont opponent. The offense exploded in the first inning scoring 11 runs and sending 14 hitters to the plate. Things settled down in the second but the Raiders smelling the food came on in the 3rd, 4th, 5th to send the East Warriors headed back to West Chester and themselves headed for Joey's Pizza. For the second game in a row the defense was solid behind Westerman and McGinley. Steve Morrison was in the dugout with his broken arm to keep the book and make sure the Coach Gill knew what the score was. Congrats to the varsity for a big win and a great comeback knocking out two of the best pitchers in the Chesmont.

It was no different on Saturday as the Reading Red Knights scored 4 runs in the 6th to make the game 7-5. The Raiders held on to get the win in a non-league game. The JV now stand at 13-3 with 3 tough ChesMont games to come. Charlie Johnson had a great day at the plate and Drew Norton led the team with 2 RBI's. Both teams have big games Thursday with Henderson. Let's get a big crowd out to root both teams home. DO YOU KNOW THE ANSWER?
