GAME SUMMARY: 7th Inning error keeps Coatesville rolling, 6-5. Just when it looked like Coatesville had been dealt their first loss, a dropped third strike that should have ended the game, turned into a Downingtown East throwing error that allowed the tying run to score, and the Red raiders went on to a 6-5 extra inning win. A bases loaded walk to Ben White in the bottom of the 8th sealed the win after Dan Gross struck out the side with an 8th inning relief stint. Coatesville (7-0, 5-0) stretched their Ches-Mont lead behind 3 RBI’s by Vinnie Belnome and two hits by Mike Walker.

Vinny Belnome went 4 for 5 with 6 RBI’s and a pair of home runs to lock up Coach Hal Ziegler’s 200th career win at Coatesville. The Red Raiders had to survive a 4 run 7th inning from the Whippets to hold on and win their 14th consecutive game and remain unbeaten on the season. The win also marked the 200th win for 1st base coach Donnie Lawrence who has been with Coach Zig for each of his 15 seasons. Coatesville improved their conference leading record to 11-0.

GAME SUMMARY: Coatesville finishes perfect on the season, slip past Malvern Prep 4-3. Coatesville had faced tough situations during their run this season….but none looked tougher than the bottom of the 7th at Malvern. With a perfect regular season record on the line, the game tied 2-2 and the bases loaded, Matt Morrison stabbed a line drive at third base and Vince Belnome then started a 6-1-3 double play to end the threat and pave the way for Coatesville to finish the regular season a perfect 19-0. With help from some bases on balls and a timely single from Charlie Johnson, the Red Raiders scored twice in the 9th inning and held on the beat Malvern Prep 4-3. The undefeated season was accented by beating the Friars who were the only teamed ranked higher than Coatesville by the Daily Local. Now all questions have been answered and the Number 1 seeded Red Raiders head to the District playoffs.

Just as he did in Game 1, Vince Belnome greeted the visitors with a leadoff home run and Charlie Johnson capped off the first inning with a monster 3 run shot to stake the Red Raiders to a quick 4-0 lead. Charlie Johnson added a solo homer and a triple and Justin Frame hit a homer to lead the 10-hit attack. Ben White had no trouble, spinning a 5 inning 3-hitter while striking out 5.

Coatesville continued their home run show for the third consecutive district playoff game and gained a berth in the championship game with a 9-3 win over Methacton at Glen Mills. Charlie Johnson continued his torrid pace with three hits including a home run and Justin Frame hit a pair of home runs to lead the Red Raiders. Steve Morrison worked out of some tough jams with the help of his fielders including sparkling catches from Mike Walker and Mike Maxwell and a pair of double plays. Dan Gross pitched two scoreless innings of relief. The Red Raiders remained unbeaten on the season at 22-0.

GAME SUMMARY: Unbeaten Red Raiders romp to District Championship, 11-2! For the first time in the district playoffs the Red Raiders found themselves in unfamiliar territory….trailing 1-0. But a Ben White bunt with two men on was thrown away by the Souderton pitcher plating 2 runs and the Champs were on their way. Steve Morrison hit a two run home run to cap the 6-run third inning and Coatesville won its first District Championship in seven years with an 11-2 win over Souderton at Spring Ford. Justin Frame added 3 more RBI’s to his playoff total and Matt Morrison knocked in two for the Red Raiders. Ben White worked 6 innings for the win which was cut short by a thunderstorm in the middle of the 6th inning. Although the ceremony had to be held on the team bus due to the storm, the 23-0 Red Raiders brought a District 1 Championship trophy home to Coatesville.
