GAME SUMMARY: Coatesville’s Freshman Team’s opener against Henderson turned into a pitcher’s duel. Coatesville plated one run in the first inning and Henderson answered with a run in the 4th. The game went 8 innings as Henderson scored the winning run in the bottom half of the 8th. John DiOttavio and Andrew Czepiel combined for a 5 hitter. John also drove in the lone C-ville run. Kevin Berry and Anthony Mobile each had one hit and one stolen base and Colby Perry also contributed a single.

GAME SUMMARY: For the second time in as many games, the Freshman Raiders (1-1) went extra innings, this time earning a 7-6 victory against D-Town West. In the 3rd inning of a scoreless game, Andrew Czepiel’s sacrifice fly scored Jordan Warmijak and Colby Perry’s single plated Dan Long. The Whippets bats were silenced by Long and Czepiel through the first four innings. The Raiders scored 3 more runs but D-town battled back to tie the game in the bottom of the 7th. In the top of the 8th, Mobile led off with a double, followed by a single by DiOttavio. Both scored to give the Raiders a 2 run cushion. D-Town plated one run in the bottom of the 8th, but DiOttavio struck out the side to ensure the victory. Mobile had 4 hits, Perry 3 hits and Cunningham 2 doubles to pace the offense while the defense played an error free game. (1-1) (1-1 Ches-Mont).

GAME SUMMARY: After spotting Rustin 3 runs in the top of the 1st inning, the freshman Raiders (2-1) took charge of their home opener, plating 7 runs in the bottom of the first frame. Starter Kyle Stewart allowed no further runs and in the bottom of the 2nd inning the Coatesville bats hammered out 9 hits, scoring 11 runs as they coasted to an 18-3 victory. The scoring was lead by Kyle Stewart’s 2 singles and 2 RBI’s and Clint Cunningham’s triple, double and 2 RBI’s. Logan Kudlacik, Austin Jones, Sean Risch, Gary Trego & Tyler Pawling contributed hits to the offensive attack. (2-1) (2-1 Ches-Mont).

GAME SUMMARY: Through the first four innings, the freshman Raiders held a solid 5-2 lead over the Cougars, but Downingtown East's bats came alive and the Raider defense faltered, yielding 6 runs while not being able to answer offensively. DiOttavio took the loss as Kyle Stewart, Alex Quinn & Andrew Czepiel all visited the mound in an effort to shut down the Cougar rally. Offensively, Clint Cunningham, John DiOttavio, Andrew Czepiel & Dan Long drove in runs for Coatesville. (3-2) (2-2 Ches-Mont).

GAME SUMMARY: On Tuesday, May 6, the freshman baseball teamed traveled to West Chester to battle WC East. Kyle Stewart was on the hill for the Raiders and held the Vikings scoreless through the first four innings while the offense tallied 11 runs through the top of the 5 inning. Led by home runs from John DiOttavio and Andrew Czepiel and additional RBI’s from Kevin Berry (3), Dan Long (2), Donnie Copeland (1) & Logan Kudlacik (1) along with hits from CJ Winchock, Sean Risch, Jordan Warmijak, Colby Perry and Stewart, the frosh were poised for a short game. The Vikings rallied but the Raiders held on for a 14-12 Victory.

GAME SUMMARY: The Freshman Raiders traveled to Avon Grove and with solid defense behind a complete game pitched by Andrew Czepiel, they upped their record to 7-3 for the season with a 7-1 victory. Defense was in charge for both teams for the first 3 innings as neither team could mount a threat, but in the 4th inning for the Raiders, a walk, a single, a sacrifice fly and an error brought home 2 runs for the visiting team. The 9th grade squad plated 5 more runs over the next 3 innings while the defense kept Avon Grove from scoring until the bottom of the 7th.

GAME SUMMARY: The Freshman Raiders finished their 2008 campaign (8-3) with a victory over Unionville by a score of 2-1. The game was a pitching duel as John DiOttavio kept Unionville at bay, holding them to just 4 hits while striking out 8 batters through 6 1/3 innings. The Raiders plated one run in the bottom of the first with an RBI single by Jordan Warmijak. In the second inning, the Raiders started the inning with 3 consecutive singles by Dan Long, Andrew Czepiel and Clint Cunningham, but an infield fly and a double play ended the threat. Kevin Berry lead off the bottom of the 3rd inning with a solo home run to deep center field, but for the remaining 3 2/3 innings the Raiders could only muster one more hit. In the top of the 7th inning, Unionville advanced the tying run to 3rd base with only 1 out. Andrew Czepiel pitched the rest of the 7th inning getting the last two outs to preserve the win.
