GAME SUMMARY: Ryan Beirne hit a two-out, three-run homer in the bottom of the eighth to give Kennett a dramatic 7-5 Ches-Mont League baseball win over visiting Coatesville on Thursday. Coatesville (0-1) had taken a 5-4 lead in the top of the eighth. P.J. Groff led Coatesville with two hits and a run scored. Josh Martin doubled.

GAME SUMMARY: Ryan Stradley's home run keyed a three-run sixth as West Chester Henderson edged visiting Coatesville, 9-7, in a Ches-Mont League baseball game on Saturday. Coatesville (0-2 league) had tied the game at 6 when it scored five runs in the top of the sixth. But Stradley led off the bottom half of the inning with a home run to give Henderson (2-0, 2-1) a 7-6 advantage. Coatesville's Clint Cunningham slugged a solo home run in the seventh, while John DiOttavio and Josh Martin both finished with two hits and an RBI.

GAME SUMMARY: The Red Raiders suffered another heartbreaking loss, being outlasted by Avon Grove 3 – 2. Avon Grove jumped out to a 2 – 0 lead on the back of strong pitching. Through the first 5 innings Coatesville was able to muster only one hit, but in the bottom of the 6th Kenny Byerly drove a double to left. That was followed by an RBI single from Billy Root that was misplayed in the outfield and Billy motored around to 3rd and scored on a wild pitch to tie the game at 2. Unfortunately, AG tallied a run in the top of the 8th on a hit batsman and followed with an RBI double. In the bottom of the 8th the Red Raiders loaded the bases with no outs, on 3 walks but were unable to push the tying run across. The loss dropped Coatesville to 0 – 4 in the Ches-Mont League.

GAME SUMMARY: Coatesville carried a 4 – 0 lead into the 4th inning behind the 3 inning no-hit pitching performance of Cody Jackson. The Red Raiders scored 4 runs in the 2nd on 4 hits and a Sac fly. Unfortunately the defense didn’t hold up as Conestoga scored 4 unearned runs in the 6th and tacked on another 3 in the 7th to take the non-league game 9 – 5. The loss dropped the hard luck Raiders to 0 – 5 overall.

White & Jesse McKim stifled the Vanguard bats, pitching a combined 2 hitter and striking out 9. Josh Martin went 2-for-4 for the Raiders (1-4, 1-5) while Danny Long and John DiOttavio went 2-for-3. DiOttavio, Jordan Warmijak and P.J. Groff all had doubles for Coatesville.

Josh Martin was the shining star at the plate for the Red Raiders, gathering 3 doubles. The loss drops Coatesville to 1 – 6 in league play.

GAME SUMMARY: P.J. Groff went 3-for-4 with a three-run home run to lift Coatesville to a 6-1 win in a big Ches-Mont League National Division baseball upset over West Chester East Friday. Andrew Czepiel drove in 2 to help the Raiders jump out to a first inning lead and never looked back. John DiOttavio also collected three hits for the Red Raiders, who improved to 2-7 in the league. Pitcher Jesse McKim threw a complete game to earn the win, giving up seven hits while striking out four.

GAME SUMMARY: West Chester Henderson (10-1) was held hitless through five innings, but erupted for four runs in the sixth and two in the seventh to pull out the Ches-Mont National win and remain in first place. Coatesville pitcher Zach White was cruising until the sixth when a walk, four singles and an error produced the four Henderson runs. White, who pitched 6 2/3 innings, went 2-for-3 with a double for Coatesville (2-8). Billy Root also went 2-for-3.

Avon Grove tacked on 3 more runs in the bottom of the frame to complete the day’s scoring. Andrew Czepiel pitched a scoreless inning in his first appearance on the mound this year. GAME SUMMARY: The gut wrenching finale to the 2010 season ended like five of the previous losses this year, with the Red Raiders giving up the winning runs in the opponents’ last at bat. This loss was especially hard to take as Coatesville jumped out to a 4 – 0 lead through 4 innings and went into the 7th inning with a 6 – 2 lead over archrival Downingtown West. Then the drama began, highlighted by a 1 out Grand Slam, on which the Whippets tied the game and then followed up by pushing the go ahead run across, two batters later. Offensively, P.J. Groff led the Raiders going 3 for 4; Billy Root and Kenny Byerly both went 2 for 4. The Red Raiders finished the season 6 – 13 in the Ches-Mont League & 6 – 14 overall.
