Coatesville Baseball Hall of Fame Legend Life began for Donald Arthur "Donnie" Lawrence in Coatesville, Pennsylvania on January 1, 1948. He was born the son of the late Henry A. and Pearl Boyce Lawrence. Donnie departed this life on July 29, 2011 in the Neighborhood Hospice Facility in West Chester.

Donnie was a 1967 graduate of the S. Horace Scott High School in Coatesville and also matriculated at the Trinity College in Colorado . He was a baseball legend to the Coatesville School District and also an awesome force on the football field. In 1966 he was the first recipient of the Golden Helmet Award and was elected the Outstanding Male Athlete in 1967. While at Trinity College, he had a very impressive pitching record of eight wins and one loss with an ERA of 1.2 and hitting average of 427. He was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates, however an injury prevented him from pursuing his career.

Donnie loved giving back to his community. He coached Little League Baseball and Midget Football and since 1992 had been a volunteer coach for the Red Raider Varsity Baseball Team. In 1997 the High School Year Book "Talaria" was dedicated to Mr. Donnie Lawrence.

Donnie dedicated his life to the students at Coatesville High School. In 2004 after thirty years of service, he retired as a security officer for the Coatesville Area Senior High School. He was inducted into the Coatesville High School Sports Hall of Fame on October 17, 2009.

Anyone wishing to make a donation in Donnie’s memory - donations can be made to the Penn Medicine Development Office Liver Cancer Research, 3535 Market Street, Suite 750, Philadelphia, PA 19104; make checks payable to Abramson Cancer Center in memory of Donald A. Lawrence.
